In 2007 Mary Schindel opened up our first storefront shop - named Just The Thing. Mary decided to jump into this new business with her husband Paul, after going through her first treatment for Leukemia. It was important that since life had suddenly began to feel short - that Mary followed her dreams.
In 2010, after 3 years of growth including expanding from just Fine Jewelry to more gift items - Mary relocated her shop into the Chester Village Green. With this relocation - Mary chose a more fitting name She Chester - from the quote “She Took the Leap and Build Her Wings on the Way Down”…This is when her daughter Bridget decides it was time to earn some extra money - and nowhere better than to help out the shop on the weekends.
In 2015 - after a 10 year battle with Leukemia Mary passed on December 27. Bridget at the time, had recently transferred to VCU and was in her sophomore year. Within 20 days of Mary’s passing, Bridget & Paul would attend their first solo buying show without their fearless leader Mary to guide them.
In 2019, the store relocated yet again to our current location at 4157 Celebration Ave. This location is our biggest and most challenging home to date - but we wouldn’t have it any other days. Adding a significant amount of apparel, more gift items, and of course carrying on our with our favorite brands.
She - is more than a quote for our family now. She - to the Schindel Family - is the reminder that Mary - our She - is always with us. That SHE was a staple in our community, that SHE was our role model, SHE taught us so much, and SHE created this place that so many of us love.
